Hand-hammered bell flares and bell tails

The material thickness of a hand-hammered bell flare is not the same as that of one that has been “turned” by machine. The material is thicker at the screw ring, gradually becoming thinner towards the rim, which gives the instrument a distinctive feel and timbre. The high demand for these bell flares, also for use on instruments made by other manufacturers, is a testimony to their first-rate quality. Our “hh” bell flares are available in 3 alloys – brass, gold brass and nickel silver – and with or without an engraved garland.

When the material used for the bell tail is hand-hammered, it is compressed to a special degree of hardness that promotes a more immediate response from the instrument. The tone color is also somewhat brighter than that of an instrument with a non-compressed bell tail. Hand-hammered bell flares and bell tails can be ordered direct (see Contact); prices available upon request.
